Text highlights are an accessibility option to help improve the readability of the chat box.

They can be used to keep track of newly-learned syndicate words as a Thief, stalk monitor a suspect as Security, or simply to mark callouts and other important events.

Creating highlights

To create new highlights, press the Channel Filter Button located on the bottom right of the chat box. There, you can create highlights by typing them in the text edit, with each term on a new line, as shown in the placeholder text.

After you are done, press Submit and the highlights will automatically be saved and remembered when the game is opened again.

User-excluding tags

User-excluding tags can be used to stop the highlighting of your or another entity's name when not mentioned directly.

The @ character is used to create a user-excluding tag, it needs to be placed directly before the target's name:

In-editor In-game
Urist Urist says, "Hello I'm Urist!"
@Urist Urist says, "Hello I'm Urist!"

With ■ being the highlighted result.

Space-sensitive tags

Space-sensitive tags are often used for abbreviations of common words to reduce the possibility of overlaps.

The " character is used to create a space-sensitive tag, it needs to be placed before and after the target word:

In-editor In-game
Det Urist says, "Det I need you to detain him."
"Det" Urist says, "Det I need you to detain him."

Auto-fill highlights and custom colors

If you are having trouble differentiating the highlights, you can choose a custom color for them in the Settings' Accessibility Tab.

You can also enable the auto-fill highlights option, a feature that automatically creates highlights based on the name and job title of the entity you are playing as.

While the option is turned on, the highlights will update every time the player controls a new entity (for example, when going from spectate to a ghost role).
