Health
Most living beings in Space Station 14 have health, which represents the physical state of their bodies. As creatures take damage, they may become slower, have stuttering speech, and eventually fall unconscious and die. Most species will naturally regenerate some damage types without medical treatment at a rate of 4 health per minute for Heat damage, and one third of that rate for Brute damage types. However, this regeneration will be disabled entirely if the target's Total Damage (the sum of all damage types from all categories) exceeds 20.

Health States
Health is measured at the side of your screen by an icon resembling an ECG trace. This roughly correlates to your current total damage. As you accrue more damage, you will become more and more impaired. At 60 total damage, your speed will be reduced to 70% of your base speed. At 80 total damage, it will be reduced down to 50%. At 100 total damage, you wall be completely incapacitated, preventing you from taking any standard actions. At 200 total damage, you will die.
| Good | Okay | Poor | Bad | Bad! | Crit | Dead | Gibbed | Ashed | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Damage | <13 | 13-37 | 38-62 | 63-87 | 87-99 | 100-199 | 200+ | 400 Blunt | 1500 Heat |
Critical Condition
Whenever your current Total Damage exceeds 100, you will fall to the ground, incapacitated. While in this state, all gameplay actions will be disabled, including your ability to speak. Additionally, a white vignette effect will appear around the edges of the screen, closing in on you as your total damage increases. While critical, you will constantly take a small amount of Asphyxiation Damage over time, meaning that you will eventually die without intervention.
Although most normal actions are disabled, you can still make a fake deathrattle to trick enemies into thinking you've died. Also, you may succumb to your fate, allowing you to die instantly. Instead, you may choose to speak a final message aloud, but this will cause you to die instantly as well. Neither of these options will prevent you from being revived, though. They will simply apply enough Asphyxiation Damage to set your total damage to 200.
Dead
Once a person's Total Damage exceeds 200, they will die. While dead, they can leave their body as a ghost to spectate the round. However, they're not necessarily out of the game yet. They can still be revived by a Defibrillator. When a Defibrillator is used on them, they will recover 40 Asphyxiation damage, and if this brings their Total Damage back below 200, they will be shocked back to life. This will typically result in them returning to a critical condition, but if their damage is reduced enough while dead, they could be shocked right back to consciousness.
If the Defibrillator won't heal enough to bring them below the 200 damage threshold, you'll need to be heal some of their damage first. Unfortunately, dead bodies cannot digest or metabolize chemicals, so you will need to be heal them with Topical Treatments, such as Bruise Packs. Before attempting to resuscitate someone, ensure that their body has a soul by Examining them. If it says the soul has departed, this means that the player controlling that character has disconnected or taken a ghost role, and is thus no longer available to take control. You can still attempt to revive them, but they will be permanently SSD.
Gibbing
If your body takes more than 400 points of Blunt Damage, your body will burst open, leaving nothing but a pile of Organs (also know as "Gibs") behind. At this point, there is no way to revive you back into your original body. The only way for you to be brought back to life is by putting your brain into a Man-Machine Interface, thus allowing you to control a Cyborg, or to be turned into an Station AI. Only Blunt Damage is capable of Gibbing.
Ashing
If your body takes more than 1500 points of Heat Damage, you will turn to ash. This process is irreversible, so being Ashed will remove your character from the round permanently.
