Pop
Stands for pop-ulation of server = number of players currently playing.
Low Pop
Small amount of people, typically 20 or less.
Typically results in slower, calmer and sometimes boring rounds due to the lack of enough players for certain antagonists to spawn.
High Pop
Large amount of people, significantly above 20-30.
Typically results in more chaotic rounds, with more going on, but also tends to dilute quality of roleplay and has chances for raiders to slip under the radar for longer, due to how many people have to be moderated.
RP
Abbreviation of RolePlay. The general attitude, rules and atmosphere of servers in relation to RP is often grouped in one of 4~ categories; though these are sometimes used to describe player behavior as well:
NRP
No RolePlay. While very rare in SS14, especially in comparison to the other categories or it's equivalent in SS13, servers marked with NRP typically focus on mechanics and gameplay, while having next to no rules regarding roleplay.
LRP
Low RolePlay. Servers marked LRP typically have relaxed roleplaying rules.
MRP
Medium RolePlay. Servers marked MRP usually have a decent basis of roleplaying rules and generally require players to act as their character would realistically in a given situation. Less leeway is afforded to behavior such as openly defying Security or your boss.
HRP
High RolePlay. Servers marked HRP generally have extensive rules on what is and is not constituted while playing a character. You are generally required to act as your character would, have a character backstory, and follow protocol on the station. Some HRP servers may create their own lore or settings to further facilitate the type of server they wish to host.
ERP
Originally standing for Erotic RolePlay. Basically any behaviour, roleplay or comments that is 18+. Despite the name, this can include out right un-errotic, but firmly for adult audience only discussions, jokes, or roleplay. A server allows ERP, if it is marked as such in the server browser - if not, it does not.
Raider
A person, that is typically inexperienced, that upon joining a server ignores rules, if even reading them, is a general nuisance, and engages in behaviors that ruin the fun of other players, such as RDM or hate speech.
RDM
Random death match. Killing and hurting others without any specific reason, beyond the wish to fight, while usually not even giving any warning they are going to do this. Tends to be against the rules of even servers with relaxed roleplaying rules. Only really applicable for non-antagonists or truly excessive/stupid shows of force under LRP rulesets.
Self-Antag
A term for a player who engages in antagonist-like activity without actually being an antagonist. This encompasses a wide variety of behavior, but is typically used to describe annoying behavior or actions which are greatly detrimental to other players for no purpose.
Self-antagonism is a bannable offense. Sometimes used in IC. DO NOT DO THIS. Plus, doing so will make you the least favorite person in the server.
SS13
The game which SS14 is based off of. It's been around a lot longer, has a different culture, some, but not all content is also present in both in different ways. Notably, everything in SS13 is locked (like anchored items in SS14) on a grid. It also runs on a much older, and harder to develop for engine, named BYOND.
Upstream
Refers to the Space Wizards' SS14 codebase, the original codebase of SS14. Any changes to Upstream will tend to "flow" down stream to all other forks (Or Downstreams) of the game. All official Wizard's Den servers work off of Upstream.
Downstream
Refers to any other codebases, usually they are based on upstream or based on another downstream.
Fork
A specific codebase, in simple terms a server, that has been split off, or "forked", away from another codebase, for any number of reasons. Typically, but not always, has different and unique gameplay content and/or rules distinct from Wizard's Den.
